ABOUT ANDREW

headshot.JPG

I am a Postdoctoral Fellow in the research group of Professor Joe Baio in the school of Chemical, Biological, and Environmental Engineering at Oregon State University.  My postdoctoral work is focused on using nonlinear surface specific spectroscopies to understand how disruptions to protein-membrane interactions can lead to late onset muscular dystrophies. I am currently supported by the NSF as a MPS-Ascend Postdoctoral Fellow.

I received my PhD from the University of Oregon, where my thesis research was completed under the supervision of Professor Geraldine Richmond.  For my thesis work I used a nonlinear scattering spectroscopic technique to study the molecular details of the surfaces of nano-sized droplets of oil dispersed in water.

Broadly, my academic interests are centered on how chemistry occuring at environmental and biological interfaces influences the other, along with an interest in how to design good model systems for investigating biological and environmental systems. Additionally I find it important to support recruitment and retention of students from underrepresented backgrounds into STEM research through outreach and 1-on-1 mentorship efforts.

Within this site you will find some information related to my research publications, presentations, teaching, and service efforts.  You can find more within my CV, my Google Scholar, or my ORCID.

Please feel free to contact me via email if you are interested in copies of my publications or work that I have done.
